Microsoft to bid CES goodbye after 2012 event

Microsoft cited its product milestones lack of alignment with the show's January timing

By CBR Staff Writer

Microsoft’s presence at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012 will be its swan song at this event.

CES, one of the largest trade shows in the world, is slated be held be held during January 9-12 in Las Vegas.

Microsoft’s earlier CEO and founder Bill Gates delivered keynote speeches at the show for 11 years consecutively. Current CEO Steve Ballmer has been delivering the speech for the past three shows and he will present his last next month.

Microsoft said it will continue to use CES as a place to connect to customers, but it will not set up a booth, citing its product milestones lack of alignment with the show’s January timing.

Microsoft’s corporate communications head Frank Shaw in a blog post said they have decided that this coming January will be their last keynote presentation and booth at CES.

"We won’t have a keynote or booth after this year because our product news milestones generally don’t align with the show’s January timing," said Shaw.

Earlier in late 2008, its arch rival Apple also decided that it would stop participating at expositions after the January 2009 Macworld Conference & Expo.
