Microsoft has confirmed to add Google, the parent company of Motorola Mobility as a defendant in its patent infringement lawsuit against Motorola Mobility in Germany.
Microsoft’s lead counsel, Dr. Tilman Mueller-Stoy told Munich I Regional Court that the company will rework its ealier lawsuit against Motorola to include Google.
The US software maker claims that Motorola had infringed its patents that involved Google Maps covering several map data.
Microsoft spokeswoman said in a statement that it turned out to be required to add Google to this particular case as Motorola maintains that it is deficient of the required information regarding actions posing on Google’s servers.
"We continue to hope Motorola will join the vast majority of Android device makers by licensing Microsoft’s patented inventions," spokeswoman said.
According to FOSS Patents, in the Munich court, Motorola had not accepted claims on infringing Microsoft’s patent with the Android Google Maps app found on its handsets, but had not specified the operation of Google’s server infrastructure.
The move would not only affect sales of Motorola in Germany, but would also affect other smartphone manufacturer depending on Google Maps.

Microsoft reported that other handset makers including Samsung, HTC and others pay for the license for using the technology, while Motorola had opposed.
Further, Apple and Microsoft are involved in legal action against Motorola that led to the complete halt of Motorola’s whole Android-based product line in Germany.
