In a bid to enable developers to leverage its Office 365 platform, Microsoft launched several new tools including APIs for mail, calendar, contacts, and files; new mobile SDKs for iOS and Android; as well as access to the Office 365 app launcher.
The new REST-based APIs for mail, files, calendars and contacts, will enable developers to flawlessly integrate Office 365 features into their applications.
Microsoft said in a statement: "These new robust REST-based APIs empower all developers to leverage the more than 400pb of data and popular services across Office 365 in any application."
"From a travel reservation app that connects to Office 365 calendars and contacts, to a sales automation app that fully integrates with Office 365 mail and files — the possibilities with Office 365 are endless."
Both the SDK versions supplement the Visual Studio SDK, with the iOS SDK supporting Objective-C, with support for Apple’s future new Swift programming language.
Further, the Office 365 app launcher provides users with a customisable single point of access in Office 365 to access the regularly used apps.
Finally, developers would now be able to set their apps beside Outlook, Yammer, or OneDrive in the Office 365 app launcher.
Microsoft added: "We have been working with a number of our close partners, including SmartSheet, Xero.com, DocuSign, K2 and Nintex, to bring their apps to the Office 365 app launcher."
