Skype has released the preview version of its voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for the new Windows Phone 8.
Skype will allow calling anyone any time, and receive calls as normal phone calls, while the firm is still developing some features including the receiving calls and message notifications even after closing the application.
Skype said, the preview will offer all of the Skype basics in the new, modern design along with many of the new features such as integration with the People Hub and a combined contact list with buddies from Windows Live Messenger.
"Start a chat with your Skype contacts right from the People Hub and keep up with new messages as they come through with Live Tiles," the firm said.
"We’ve set out to bring Skype to Windows Phone 8 with a clean, beautiful and modern interface."
Currently available for download from the Windows Phone store, the new 8MB application will require a smartphone powered by Microsoft’s new Windows Phone operating system, which includes the Nokia’s Lumia smartphones, in addition to HTC’s 8X.
