Microsoft ramps up production of Surface tablet

The software maker has also increased its number of Microsoft holiday stores to meet the rising demand during the holiday shopping season

By CBR Staff Writer

Microsoft has increased the production of its new Surface tablet, launched against Apple’s iPad, and will be available with more number of retailers in mid-December.

The software maker has also increased its number of Microsoft holiday stores, including the conversion of several of the stores into permanent Microsoft retail outlets to meet the rising demand during the holiday shopping season.

Microsoft Surface general manager Panos Panay said that the public reaction to Surface has been exciting to see.

"We’ve increased production and are expanding the ways in which customers can interact with, experience and purchase Surface," Panay said.

The new tablet would also be on sale at retail stores in Australia from mid-December, followed by more countries in the next few months.

Microsoft Retail Sales and Marketing corporate vice president Steve Schueler said that the company’s plan has been to expand the retail presence for Surface after the first of the year.

"Based on interest from retailers, we are giving them the option to carry Surface with Windows RT even earlier," Schueler said.
