Microsoft has predicted that 2015 will see digital banking overtaking branch networks as the preferred banking option for customers.

A recent company blog by Marcelo Marquez de la Garza, director, Worldwide Financial Services at Microsoft, predicts that this year will see a further acceleration of digital adoption in consumer banking.

Hauser highlights the large proportion of younger customers (88% in the US) using online banking, but notes that older generations are close behind.

"It’s no surprise that digital is changing the way we bank, and we expect to see even more of the digital revolution to take place in 2015."

Amongst other predictions, Hauser expects that 2015 will see a much greater use of social media in banking.

"A larger common adoption of social media and collaboration technology is also another area of potential expansion in 2015. During 2014, the banking sector started to witness the empowering attributes that a solid social platform can have in improving the interaction between customers and employees."
