The annual Microprocessor Forum, which will take place in San Jose early in October, promises disclosures of Intel Corp’s Coppermine and Merced processors, further members of Advanced Micro Devices Inc’s Athlon processor range, two new 3D accelerators, and a radically new architecture for multimedia and networking applications. Also on the agenda are new DSP architectures and embedded CPU cores, and National Semiconductor Corp’s new information appliance on a chip, unveiled by the company yesterday (see separate story). Stanford’s RISC pioneer John Hennessy will be in attendance, and Sony Corp’s Ken Kutaragi will talk about the 128bit CPU ‘Emotion Engine’ Sony co-developed with Toshiba Corp. A more detailed agenda will be released next month.
