Fremont, California-based Micronics Computers Inc has developed new system boards designed around the 66MHz Intel Corp 80486DX2 microprocessor: the new products include the 80486 Gemini DX2 and the 80486 Gemini VL-Bus boards and these have an advanced write buffer and paging memory design to exploit the 66MHz speed of the chip: also, they incorporate Local Bus technology, said to make them the fastest system boards available for personal computers; sample quantities are available now with shipments in 30 days; the company says that performance advantages are gained from the addition of VESA-compatible Local Bus interfaces, and Local Bus technology enables peripherals to run at the CPU interface speed – 33MHz in the case of the DX2, rather than 8MHz to 10MHz of the AT, EISA and Micro Channel buses.
