Struggling PC direct marketer Micron Electronics Inc announced Tuesday the acquisition of Lightrealm Inc, a Kirkland, Washington-based web hosting and internet access company. The acquisition comes just a week after Nampa, Idaho-based Micron announced its new subscription computing business model, of which web hosting is a core business. Terms of the deal call for Micron to acquire all of the outstanding stock of Lightrealm in exchange for an undisclosed amount of cash. In August, the company acquired Los Angeles-based HostPro Inc.
Lightrealm claims annual revenues of $9m and roughly 42,500 paid accounts, as well as an average monthly growth rate of 10%. Micron claims that with the completion of the acquisition, it will rank as one of the top five web hosting providers in the US, based on the number of accounts. Micron’s newest business plan, which is aimed at small and mid-sized companies, will see customers pay a monthly fee in return for web hosting, desktop management and internet access and services.
