Micromuse Inc yesterday announced the latest addition to its Netcool suite of service-level management software. The new product, Netcool/Firewall-1, is designed to monitor the performance of Check Point Software Technology Ltd’s Firewall-1 enterprise security solution: software that’s designed to monitor intrusions on the corporate network. Netcool/Firewall-1 is aimed at managed network service providers, ISPs and large corporates who want to simultaneously monitor the state of a number of firewalls in real time. A spokesperson for Micromuse said Check Point’s Firewall-1 software relied on an on-site operator sitting and watching the screen to wait for alerts. But Netcool/Firewall- 1 works by collecting security data from Check Point’s firewall software and sending it, in real time, to a central network management center, like an ISP or telco, where operators are constantly monitoring the state of the enterprise. The software can also consolidate the Check Point data with information from other Netcool sources, such as Hewlett-Packard Co’s Openview Cisco routers and SAP R3, to provide a complete view of the network, the spokeperson said. NetCool/Firewall-1 will be available in early 1999.
