London-based Sun Microsystems Inc reseller Micromuse Ltd used Unix Expo in New York last week to introduce its promised Simple Network Management Protocol tools developed internally on the back of its configuration and asset management software through its US venture, Acronym (CI No 2,419). NetColl/Omnibus collects alert information from Simple Network Management Protocol managers, SunNet Manager, Open View and NetView for AIX, and displays information in a single management view. NetCollTools are a collection of SunNet Manager add-ons for multi-user systems, for colour-coding lists of alert information, asynchronous alerts and a Command Centre graphical user interface front end for SunNet Manager. The UK market will not be ready for most of the technology for at least a year, the company estimates. It is also launching LegacyWatch in the US, software enabling non-Simple Network Management Protocol systems to be managed by Simple Network Management Protocol managers and NetColl/Omnibus.
