MICROAGE COMPUTER STORES AIMS AT THE SOVIET MARKET

By CBR Staff Writer

MicroAge Computer Stores Inc threw in the towel in the UK, but the company is now looking to crack a much more daunting market, that of the Soviet Union – but is going in via a partner: the Tempe, Arizona company has signed a development agreement with Phargo Management & Consulting Ltd of Toronto, as its sub franchisor in the Soviet Union; the first MicroAge store in Moscow is planned to open this year in the central Cosmo Hotel, with a minimum of nine more outlets to open over the next five years throughout the Union; the plan is that Phargo should both own MicroAge stores, and, as a sub-franchisor, sell MicroAge franchises to that unlikely species, Soviet entrepreneurs.
