Advanced Micro Devices Inc is over the moon at the demand for its Am386 microprocessors, saying that it has already shipped its millionth part, and expects to have shipped 2m by year-end: looking to next year, it expects to surpass Intel’s total of 80386 parts by the end of the year; unexpectedly strong demand for the Am386DX products coupled with continued strong demand for Am386SX devices should result in total revenues from Am386 family products increasing in the current quarter to over $120m, more than double last quarter’s $59m, the company said, adding that total corporate sales will substantially exceed AMD’s previous quarterly record of $325m, producing operating results well in excess of securities analysts’ current forecasts.
