Happy birthday, Michelangelo! Some people found that their computers had forgotten it was a leap year so the evil virus struck a day early – one March 5 strike was at computers at a branch of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville at an estimated cost of $600; much worse were strikes reported by Japanese architectural firm, the Oakland Tribune newspaper, and classified counter-intelligence information in Uruguay; according to the London Evening Standard, Scotland Yard had received notifications of 150 systems being hit in the UK, including a medium-sized services business, thought to be in the City of London, which lost 100 systems, and a business in the north, which lost all its data; 1,000 instances were successfully neutralised in Germany, but one company in the Ruhr lost data on 75 computers.
