Consumers who sign up to the free service will receive email updates on the perceived level of threat to the UK, which since August 14 stands at severe.
France and the US also have alert systems in place, but do not offer email updates.
The UK’s threat level, which is assessed by the government’s Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre, has been posted on the M15 website since August 2006.
