Metsun Ltd, the company organised by Lazard Brothers & Co to weigh up a bid for GEC Plc is now expected to forestall any political storm by requesting that its proposal to bid be referred at once to the Monopolies & Mergers Commission. According to the Evening Standard, it is hoping to sign a memorandum of understanding with AT&T Co on the latter’s buying into GEC Plessey Telecommunications, a move that could fall foul of regulators in the US.
