Metrowerks Inc, the software tools company that made its fortune on the Macintosh, has a new version of its flagship CodeWarrier compiler set for PowerPC embedded systems – the market where the PowerPC has the strongest chance of further expansion. The new version, which includes the full set of tools, libraries and documentation as the systems version, supports the Motorola Inc MPC821 and MPC860 embedded processors. Software development is done on a Windows 95 or NT platform. Using the CodeWarrier debugger from a desktop computer, a programmer can debug software running on Motorola MPC8xx bareboards, any board supporting the BDB background Debug Mode or a PowerPC system with RS-232 serial port. Price is $900, or $120 for academic users.
