Linux Application Developer and Platform Developer Editions, part of Codewarrior Development Studio, will next month be made available to developers on ARM, ColdFire and Power PC on an annuity basis.
Metrowerks will charge $1,799 annually for Linux Application Developer, with a six-month promotion for $999, down from $2,800. Platform Developer is to be priced $2,999 per year, with an introductory offer of $1,599, compared to $5,000.
Pricing is per seat and includes support and rights to upgrades.
Greg Hemstreet, director of product marketing for baseline tools and core technologies, said Metrowerks is lowering prices to help remove a barrier to project teams considering a move from proprietary real team operating systems (RTOS) to embedded Linux.
This is addressing the part of the market looking to lower their risk by switching, Hemstreet said. He added subscriptions are also in keeping with board support packages, used in systems development, which are typically available via subscriptions.
