Metrologie UK Ltd, the High Wycombe-based subsidiary of France’s Metrologie International SA, is making 47 redundancies in a rationalisation of its sales operations. The company says that the ongoing recession and tighter margins have forced its arm, and that the rest of Metrologie on the continent will be looking at some form of reorganisation, although precise financial information is not available at present since the group’s year-end results have yet to be posted to the Paris Stock Exchange. The UK intends to focus on selected areas of expertise and coporate sales have been reorganised into three business areas – Digital Equipment Corp kit, new technologies and government. The company does not intend to drop any products from its portfolio, but low-cost personal computers will now be channelled through Metrologie Distribution, while Metrologie Corporate will handle high-end value-added sales. Corporate, formerly Rapid Recall, will continue to supply DEC systems, and the new technologies sales group is to concentrate on the X Window terminals from Network Computing Devices Inc.
