According to Metrologic, the VoyagerGS includes features such as a rapid scan speed of 100 scans per second, extended depth of field, CodeGate data transmission, manual-trigger operation, automatic in-stand detection, data formatting and configuration with MetroSelect or MetroSet2 via RS232 or USB.
It has a flex stand for hands-free scanning of small items and hang tags. The company said that laser scanners can read barcodes at a farther distance from the head of the device than a charge-coupled device scanner. It also offers Voyager, VoyagerCG, VoyagerPDF, VoyagerHD and VoyagerBT series of laser scanners.
Metrologic spent more than a year soliciting worldwide customer feedback on the overall design of the VoyagerGS, said Mark Schmidt, vice president of product management and marketing at Metrologic. This feedback resulted in the development of a lightweight and ergonomic scanner that’s small enough to fit comfortably into any sized hand, yet durable enough to withstand the challenges of continual use.
The VoyagerGS improves on the successful Voyager product platform with a 25%faster scanning speed and a working range that’s 50% longer, said Mr Schmidt. These advancements combine to offer retailers optimized performance in applications common to grocery stores and home-and-garden centers such as under-the-cart scanning.
According to the company, it has shipped more than three million MS9500 series of Voyager laser scanners in its wireless and tethered configurations worldwide till date.
The new device comes with a five year limited warranty and will begin shipping worldwide from December 16.
In September 2007, Metrologic introduced a vertical mini-slot scanner MS7820 Solaris, which scans high-density codes and fits easily into any existing enclosure found in small-item, high-volume retail environments.
