In an age when most people of either gender spend much of their lives working full-time, it is an absurdity to have utility meter readers trailing round block after block of empty flats or houses during working hours – and since no meter reader seems to be prepared to work during hours when people are at home, the only solution is to put them out of a job altogether: that is the aim of a new company, Metrocom Inc, which has been formed to manufacture equipment that will enable utilities to monitor power or gas usage remotely without the need to read the meter – and it has just tapped Robert Dilworth, president of Zenith Data Systems, to become its president; Dilworth is succeeded by senior vice-president, sales and marketing, John Frank.
