The lab will be the sole research and test center of its kind in Europe to be accredited by the RFID standards body EPCglobal. It will enable companies, RFID makers and service providers to test Gen 2 RFID technologies on a case and item level, as well as in a complex environments involving various materials, such as metals and liquids.

The Test Lab will be set up at the Metro RFID Innovation Center in Neuss and is expected to be completed by late October.

In addition to the Metro-GS1 Germany lab, EPCglobal also accredited three other test centers, one in Taiwan and two in the US.
