Robert Metcalfe, 40, chairman of 3Com Corp and described as the inventor of Ethernet, is so overcome with guilt, gratitude and greatness that he has donated a whopping $1.6m in 3Com shares to his alma mater, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to establish the Robert M Metcalfe Professorship Fund in Engineering and the Liberal Arts; Metcalfe was a member of the Class of 1968 at MIT – and that guilt, etc?
