METATOOLS TO ACQUIRE SPECULAR INTERNATIONAL

Graphics software developer MetaTools Inc, Carpinteria, California has reached definitive agreement to buy Specular International Inc, privately-held Amherst, Massachusetts software development company best known for its Infini-D QuickTime application. MetaTools expects to record a $7m charge next quarter to account for the transaction. It also said it expects to break even or a cent a share or so better on sales of $6.1m to $6.2m.
