Judicial inquiry system (JIS) 2.6 supports the recently released National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) 2.0 standard, released in July. A partnership of the US Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security, NIEM was designed to enable jurisdictions to effectively share critical information in emergency situations, as well as support the day-to-day operations of agencies throughout the nation. Specifically, JIS 2.6 features the ability to create and leverage information exchange package documentation (IEPD). As a specification for data exchange that defines usage of data elements for data sharing, IEPD is the focal point of NIEM interoperability.
