MESA TO BUY SINGER SHARES?

By CBR Staff Writer

Having cast off its history and shed all its sewing machine and other consumer interests to become a pure defence electronics company, Singer Co now finds itself a takeover play: corporate raider T Boone Pickens says that his Mesa Limited Partnership holds 4.4% of Singer’s shares and may take its stake up to 15%; two weeks ago, Mesa made a similar statement on Boeing Co, and while Singer would be the easier target, some suspect the move is a blind to lull Boeing and its backers in a false sense of security.
