MERRILL LYNCH’S PRIVATE TELECOM NETWORK IS UP FOR SALE

Underlining why facilities management is regarded as such a hot business to be in, Merrill Lynch & Co has followed the lead of Bankers Trust New York Co, which a few months back sold its computer operations to Xerox Corp in a facilities management deal – but in Merrill’s case, it is the company’s $400m, 350-employee private telecommunications network that is up for sale: it has invited the Big Three – AT&T Co, MCI Communications Corp and US Sprint Communications Co – to bid to operate the network.
