Scotts Valley, California-based Meridian Data Inc has come out with Personal CD Publisher, a software-only version of its CD-ROM publishing system: designed to run on an 80386-based personal computer, it features a virtual file structure that enables users to manipulate and selectively copy data sectors from hard disk to the industry standard ISO 9660 CD ROM format and users can then directly master an exact image of a CD-ROM using the Sony CDW-1 write-once recorder or premaster an exact image of a CD-ROM to an image file stored on either a cartridge tape system or MS-DOS volume; it costs $2,800 now.
