Cable & Wireless Plc’s Mercury Communications Ltd late yesterday reported that it has won the contract to upgrade and run the UK’s national police communications network, which links the 53 regional police forces: Mercury will upgrade the existing network to provide integrated telephone, data and video communications, enabling the police to enjoy lower communications costs, made possible by using Mercury’s all-digital network; no value was given for the contract.
