Mercury Communications Ltd continues to upgrade its network apace and its most recent investment is a UKP12.8m deal with Milan-based Telettra Spa for equipment which, says Mercury, increases the reliability of the network by providing extra route diversity; the system will consist of a network of cross-connect switches, capable of switching 140Mbs per channel and providing automatic rerouting at 40 centrally controlled points throughout the network: Telettra claims to have supplied the first cross-connect system in Europe, to Spain’s Telefonica de Espana SA, last year.
