Cable & Wireless Plc’s Mercury Personal Communications reckons that Vodafone Group Plc and Cellnet Mobile Communications Ltd have got their approach to the mass market all wrong with their high call rate-low subscription services for low volume users: managing director Richard Goswell said We believe that penalising customers for making frequent calls or using their phones at certain times of the day is not a strategy designed to win over new consumers to the benefits of mobile communications, and that when Mercury launches its Personal Communications Network next summer, it will offer pricing to stimulate and encourage usage at all times of the day – For us, encouraging customers to use their phone makes more sense than discouraging them.
