Mercury Communications Ltd has announced availability of its ISDN service to the US, Canada, Hong Kong and Bermuda: it is claiming 22% cost savings to the first three destinations for its directly-con nected 2100 Premier customers over British Telecommunications Plc’s basic rate charge, and also claims to be the first UK carrier to offer ISDN service to Bermuda; connections to France, Germany, Australia and Switzerland are planned within the next six months; at present, however, supplementary services – such as calling line identification are not available on these inter national routes, since Mercury uses the DASS 2 signalling system, rath er than the CCITT’s Q.931 standard; the company says that trials of Q.931 are to take place in the first quarter of next year, with availability following after that.
