London-based Mercury Communications Ltd has revealed a new deal for its residential users that comes into effect on September 1. The package includes guaranteed savings of at least 20% over British Telecommunications Plc basic rates on national long-distance calls made between 6pm and 8am Monday to Friday, or on weekends and public holidays, and 10% savings over British Telecom on long distance calls during prime and standard periods. International calls at any time of day will attract a 10% saving. Mercury will also introduce charge bands corresponding to British Telecom’s for easier price comparisons. A loyalty discount scheme will award a 5% discount to users when their bills exceed UKP20 per month or UKP60 per quarter. The final plank of Mercury’s new strategy is ‘Daytime Calling Plan’. For a UKP3 quarterly fee this service will award an extra 5% discount for calls during prime and standard periods, says the Cable & Wireless Plc company.
