Me too: Unisys Corp wants the industry to remember it’s going to major on Intel Corps future IA-64 processors like everyone else. For the first time it’s saying publicly it’s migrating its MCP/AS and OS2200 mainframe operating systems from proprietary chipsets to IA-64, including the Merced processor, where they’ll run alongside NT or Unix implemented on other CPUs in a single ClearPath HMP system design. Unisys’ already offer MCP/AS running on the Pentium Pro-based ClearPath HMP NX 4200 server. Unisys tells us the Pentium Pro technology itUs OEMing from Advanced Logic Research Inc will end up in new four-way Aquanta 5400 and 6400 systems – the latter likely getting a new name. The 10-way 200MHz Pentium-based 61000 now due in May running NT or Unix will be renamed the Aquanta Enterprise Server XR6. Tandem Computer Inc ServerNet clustering will be available for these models. The ccNUMA technology Unisys is OEMing from Data General Corp is expected to end up in 61000 models. The ALR and 61000 technologies will also feature in ClearPath HMP configurations for running NT or Unix alongside mainframe applications. There will be yet more news of its Tandem relationship in a few days, perhaps even official confirmation of the deal it has to supply Tandem its Intel boxes.
