The US Commerce Department directives that require the likes of IBM and DEC to impose US export regulations on their European customers has finally got members of the European Parliament up in arms: members of the EEC’s debating chamber are tabling a motion calling for the dissolution of CoCom, the Paris-based Co-ordinating Committee on Multinational Export Controls; Co-Com regulations on export of sensitive equipment to the Comecon countries reflect the regulations in force from time to time in the US, and it has no executive power to enforce its decisions; the MEPs say control of high technology exports should be turned over to Nato.
