Media Vision Inc of Fremont, California has launched the Memphis multimedia upgrade system for MS-DOS micros that doubles as a stand-alone audio compact disk player. The system consists of a chassis with CD audio controls, two detachable speakers, an internal interface board and two pre-recorded CD-ROM titles. Incorporating Pro Audio 16 technology, Memphis features 16-bit 44.1KHz stereo sound; a double-speed CD-ROM drive; 20-voice FM synthesiser; a software controllable mixer; a game port; and SCSI CD-ROM controller interface. It is AdLib, Sound Blaster and Pro Audio 16 compatible and out now in the US for $1,000 and international versions are expected to arrive later this year or early next.
