MEMPHIS – “COOL BUT NOT COMPELLING” SAYS REPORT

Users will find the new features of Memphis, Microsoft Corp’s Windows 98 operating system which has just gone to beta and is due in the first quarter of next year, cool but not compelling, in Meta Group’s estimation. Its Internet Explorer 4.0 shell will be available on Windows 95 and NT 4.0 when it eventually ships in the fourth quarter with little loss of functionality, though the improved driver model (and new drivers) will not immediately benefit users.
