MEMOREX THIRD PARTY SUPPORT

By CBR Staff Writer

Liberated from the Burroughs shackles, Memorex is enjoying its freedom enormously, and the UK subsidiary has announced that it is ready to enter the third party IBM maintenance market. It will initially concentrate on 4300 and System 36 and 38 processors, storage devices and communications equipment, before moving onward and upward to large IBM and compatible mainframes around the end of the year. It will initially direct its efforts at users who already have some Memorex kit, but that won’t cramp its style much because it claims a presence in 75% of UK IBM sites. Processor and storage response time will be two hours during prime shift, four hours at other times, and communications equipment will be within eight hours of the call. It has 130 UK customer engineers.
