Memorex International NV will next year introduce an IBM 3480 compatible tape cartridge library system as a result of an agreement with Fujitsu Ltd. The planned product is claimed to offer performance capabilities in excess of anything currently available. The library will be based on the Memorex 5480 tape cartridge subsystem, for which the company also announced two enhancements – a data compression algorithm that saves up to 50% of tape space; and a 4.5Mbyte-per-second channel attachment; both are planned for first quarter of 1988.
