Memorex Corp, now a freestanding company headquartered in London, is looking a little upstaged by Storage Technology’s launch of its IBM 3480-compatible tape transport, and the Nearline library system that can go with it (CI No 608), but it won’t be far behind. The company says that it will be making a comprehensive introduction of tape drives this quarter for delivery in the second quarter – but won’t be drawn on whether a jukebox-style library system features in its plans; the tape drives are likely to come from Hitachi or Fujitsu.
