MEMOREX MAKES TAPE PROMISES

By CBR Staff Writer

Consciously lapsing into that odd language called IBMspeak, Memorex Telex Inc yesterday made a statement of direction for capacity and performance enhancements to its IBM 3480-compatible cartridge tape products. It says it will have out equivalent and compatible cartridge capacity and performance as the new IBM products within 12 months or less of IBM’s first shipment. IBM now has followed Memorex Telex’s lead with announcements of an enlarged buffer and faster channel transfer speed, it says: However, IBM has not made a formal announcement of the data compression feature, while Memorex Telex has shipped many systems with this proprietary feature. A triple capacity automatic cartridge loader is also planned for the 5480, for mid-1989.
