MEMOREX ANSWERS REMOTE 3274 WITHOUT MULTIPLEXOR

By CBR Staff Writer

Memorex UK Ltd has come up with two alternatives to the IBM 3174 81R and 3174-82R remote 3274-type cluster controllers – and adds additional ports by adding a board rather than using IBM’s multiplexor solution. The Memorex 2374-81R is for SNA/SDLC, SNA/X25 and bi-sync, the 82R does only the first two. They come with four ports standard, with a plug-in board for a second four. They support line speeds of up to 64Kbps for SNA/SDLC, 19.2Kbps for X25, and up to 9,600 bps for bi-sync. Over IBM’s offering they add async links to to ASCII hosts and peripherals, and Downstream Load Device Support and are smaller and use less power; they are UKP2,400 with four ports, UKP3,000 with eight.
