Fremont, California-based Media Vision Inc, which likes to think of itself as a leader in multimedia for personal computers, has joined forces with Analog Devices Inc, Norwood, Massachusetts, signing a letter of intent to work together to develop next generation multimedia chips for personal computers. Media Vision says it expects to combine its expertise in producing and selling audio boards and chips for personal computers with Analog Devices’ signal processing and mixed signal semiconductor technology for a variety of markets. Under the proposed agreement, Media Vision will have exclusive licence to use Analog’s core signal processor technology in the personal computer sound market for four years, and the company intends to integrate it with its 16-bit audio architecture and upcoming advanced audio offerings, such as sound effects and waveguide synthesis, to create next generation chips for adding audio and other features to personal computers. The first products are expected out in 1994.
