Hitachi Ltd’s Dataproducts Corp has announced its LZR 1560 series of 11 by 17 laser printers that use PostScript Level 2 and print at either 300 dpi or 400 dpi: the print engine performs at up to 15 pages per minute, and besides PostScript Level 2, the printer comes with PCL IV emulation, has serial, parallel, and AppleTalk ports, and a SCSI port to attach an external disk; all models have 4Mb of memory, expandable to 16Mb, and the printers use a Weitek Corp 8200 RISC controller; Dataproducts says the printer can print even complex pages at its rated speed; the LZR 1560 comes in three models, one with a single paper tray at $5,700, one with two trays for $6,500 and one with three trays at $7,000; they will be available this month.
