MDIS Group Plc, UK-based systems integrator and software developer, is pushing into e-commerce software and expects to derive up to half of its revenue from that space within a year. Customers, analysts and competitors have been confused the company admitted, by the disparate interests in reselling, bespoke systems integration and packaged software. We’ve maintained radio silence for too long, said UK sales and marketing director Rob Coyne. This is an attempt to haul MDIS out of its obscurity and provide the figurehead for its activities.

The internet-related offering from the Hemel Hempstead, UK-based firm is centered round three areas: e-Knowledge, for customer relationship management and business intelligence; e-Enterprise, for legacy applications; and e-Infrastructure, for MDIS’ managed services division. MDIS has relationships with a number of vendors to provide applications, databases and platforms including Clarify, Cognos, Oracle, Informix, Inktomi, Intershop and Sun.

The target market for the e-commerce drive is the corporate one, not the company’s traditional markets of government, healthcare and police services. That said, the government sector could yet be a lucrative one too, and MDIS reckons it is well-placed to benefit from the Labour government’s drive towards modernizing the UK economy. Key verticals are telcos, insurance, retail and pharmaceuticals. Coyne has already upped the corporate sales team from nine to 28 and expects to reap the rewards from that investment over the coming year. MDIS revenue in this area has grown by around 65% this year in the UK alone.
