Application simulations were created using iRise by nurse informaticists and other clinicians to specify an online order entry system around order sets, a grouping of orders used by physicians and nurses regarding a patient’s situation. iRise was also used to simulate a lab order entry system, the electronic codification of and transfer of lab orders between clinicians.
As a result of using the simulation for stakeholder approval and usability testing, MD Anderson was able to roll out the new application, training and documentation to hundreds of users up to 50% faster, with no downtime.
MD Anderson’s goal is to make cancer history, and we see technology as a way to get us there faster, said Dr Lynn Vogel, vice president and CIO of MD Anderson. To achieve that goal, we need to move at a more rapid pace and grow the organization…iRise’s simulation capability gives us the mechanism to communicate the desired application clearly, and therefore, speed the delivery of new, critical care systems.
