SunExpress Inc, the direct sales arm of Sun Microsystems Inc has been merged into Sun Microsystems Computer Co following reorganization plans implemented by chief executive Scott McNealy. McNealy said jobs won’t be affected in the short term and customers will gain from the changes, because it will reduce channel confusion. The company said it will improve services and present Sun as one face, but spokesperson Mike Sweeney said other Sun companies would not be integrated in the future. The company said the reorganization is an internal matter, and it is reluctant to divulge details as to how customers and clients will exactly benefit. A transition team has been established to decide how Sun can take advantage of SunExpress’s assets and McNealy said he intends to have the company operating as a productive unit of Sun, although he has no immediate plans to move it geographically.
