The acquisition reaffirms McKesson’s goal of expanding its role in the personal health management market.
Founded in 1999, RelayHealth’s network includes more than 18,000 health professionals, 600,000 patients, and more than a dozen health plans. The company’s services allow patients to maintain their own personal health records at home, view prescription medication lists and request renewals, set appointments, receive test results and securely communicate with their healthcare providers.
McKesson also announced a new Personal Health Solutions group which will provide in-home patient monitoring, web portal technology, triage software and personal emergency response systems. The full suite will include products and services from recently acquired HealthCom Partners, which provides patient billing services designed to simplify and enhance financial interactions between healthcare providers and their patients.
Physicians have increasingly internet-savvy patients and can now provide them with the services they expect, including electronic communication, clinical care management tools, online payment and secure access to personal records, said Dr Giovanni Colella, and CEO of RelayHealth, now the president and general manager of McKesson Personal Health Solutions.
