The carrier IP termination product is designed for companies that have media gateway equipment and want to originate and terminate IP traffic over a global network, MCI said.

The IP termination service is available throughout the US, while the SIOP gateway service is available to just more than half, or 54%, of US companies and homes.

The services were initially planned for later this year, but MCI said it accelerated product development to meet growing demand for VoIP services.

MCI customers are demanding VoIP enablement products that not only have the necessary features and functionality but that ride on an integrated global network, said John Krummel, senior vice president of MCI wholesale services, in a statement.

The Ashburn, Virginia-based company said it plans to expand its VoIP enablement services and had earmarked $1m in capital expenditures this year to do so.
