MCI Communications Corp, British Telecommunications Plc and Microsoft Corp confirmed they plan to expand their alliances to develop a new range of global intranet services. They will target two types of customer, businesses that want to build and manage their own intranet, and, early next year, 1997, those wanting a fully-managed, network-based intranet service. The services will offer the full range of Microsoft’s messaging and intranet systems. The planned merged British Telecom and MCI will market the services worldwide through their Concert joint venture. Concert InternetPlus Service, a global Internet backbone that became operational this week between the US and Europe, will support intranet transport for the new services.
